Listen To This!

On Wednesday, CCB and I (along with his good friends Neil and Jason) went to see Ray LaMontagne at the legendary Massey Hall in Toronto. I’ve searched the Internets high and low for a suitable clip from the concert and this was all I’ve been able to find so far (perhaps there will be more floating around in the next day or two.) It’s not a great clip – you can barely see Ray at all – but the acoustics in Massey Hall are amazing, so the clip sounds incredible. At this point in the concert, Ray was alone on stage – just the man and his guitar. It illustrates beautifully what I appreciate most about Ray LaMontagne’s music. He does not go on tour because he loves the crowds and the fame – in fact, he once gave up music for over a year because his stage fright was overwhelming. He performs because he must. His songs are so vulnerable – a window into his soul that leaves the listener awestruck and humbled. If you have not yet experienced his music, run to iTunes today and download everything he has ever produced. You will not be sorry, I promise you.
