For a while now, I’ve been a fan of the Black Cab Sessions. If you aren’t aware of them, you really should check them out. These guys take a camera, put it in the back of a London cab, and invite musicians (some famous, some not so much) to ride along and play an acoustic set as they drive through the city streets. These days, recording technology can make anyone sound awesome on a CD (hell, I could probably sell a record if they tweaked my voice enough), but the true test of an artist is how they sound in an acoustic setting. When you strip away all the technology and it’s just a guitar and a voice, if it sounds awesome, you know you’re in the presence of greatness.
So imagine my surprise when I got an email update today from the Black Cab Sessions. Their latest installment is none other than CCB’s favorite artist, Ryan Adams. I’ll admit that I didn’t know him until CCB introduced him to me several years ago, but I am nonetheless in awe of his talent.
I can’t embed the video here, so you’ll have to trust me and follow this link to the Black Cab Sessions website. The song is “Sink Ships” from the “Cardinology” album by Ryan Adams & The Cardinals. It is quite simply one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Period.
