Cookies!!!

So I’m posting late tonight, but by god, I’M POSTING! I had a crazy day that started with taking Lauren to school and heading to work. I planned to work about 4 or 5 hours, but ended up staying for 8. Part of that was because my computer kept shutting down every time I stepped away from it for two minutes, necessitating a reboot. The computer support yahoos kept telling me that it “rebooted just fine, so let us know if it happens again!” Long story short, they’re swapping out my hard drive tomorrow.

I also spent a fair bit of time talking to CCB, who had found himself lost in Detroit, Michigan. Let me tell you this: if I have to be lost anywhere in the world, Detroit is about the LAST PLACE that I would want to be lost. Just saying. So I was at my desk in Salt Lake City, looking at Google Maps and trying to talk to CCB, who was eating up his roaming minutes like he’s a freaking billionaire. We finally got him to a place he recognized and he made his way back to his hotel. Oh, did I mention that he had been on his way to have dinner with my parents in OHIO (they’re only about an hour and a half from Detroit). The little tete-a-tete was his idea, and my parents were THRILLED that he liked them enough to offer to drive down and have dinner with them. Needless to say, that dinner is now being rescheduled for next week. My parents still love him, and are patiently awaiting his arrival.

But the BEST part of my night (and yes, I am being facetious) was attending a Girl Scout Mandatory Cookie Training Meeting for three hours tonight. I now know everything there is to know about selling Girl Scout Cookies, in case you wondered. Oh, and I should add that we sampled said Girl Scout Cookies!! The new Dulce de Leche one is pretty good. It’s no Samoa, mind you, but it’s still rather tasty. We’re going to be selling cookies in just a little over a week, and I’m excited. And the girls are excited. Our troop earns 40 cents from every box we sell, so our little Brownie Troop will finally have money to spend on field trips and other fun stuff. But talk to me again in March when the whole Cookie-gate is over, and we’ll see if I’m still excited or not.

In the meantime, I’m going to go have a glass of milk and the one tiny Samoa cookie that I pilfered from the stash and brought home with me. And since I was so good on my diet today, I’m not even going to consider it “cheating”. I’ve had a lousy day and I deserve it. Sue me.

< ![CDATA[Dammit I just swore off sugar again, but it's my duty to gain a few pounds to help out the Brownie Scouts. I have a soft spot for them because that's as far as my Girl Scout career went.

Last year I had a hell of a time finding cookies. Glad to know I can come out to the burbs and buy them from you.]]>

< ![CDATA[From a Girl Scout Council staff person in Southern CA - THANK YOU for helping support the Girl Scout Cookie Sale! It can be a ton of work, but without your help and the help of the thousands of dedicated volunteers, the girls wouldn't have nearly the same opportunities. Thank you!]]>

< ![CDATA[I've been to detroit a few times for work.
You're right - you do not want to get lost there.
I got lost in a ghetto part of baltimore, maryland
    and detroit is much scarier!]]>

< ![CDATA[So what kind of secret things do they tell you at cookie training?? Inquiring minds want to know!! We're limiting ourselves to eight boxes this year. I think that is not unreasonable!!]]>

< ![CDATA[I am happily transfering the neighborhood cookie sales to you this year. After selling GS cookies for 7 years I think I deserve to be done. Good luck.]]>

< ![CDATA[Get this: I still have a box of thin mints in the freezer from last year. I can't eat them. This is like a parallel universe. I ate a whole box of the samoa thingies last year.

My daughter doesn't even know about Brownies or Girl Scouts yet. I'm afraid to tell her.]]>
